OPS Open Pottery Studio - February ( 14+ Years )

Pottery wheels, slab roller, work tables, locker storage, drying racks, glazes and kiln firings...it's yours to utilize. The Studio will be open for independent study during scheduled hours.

Beginning Wheel Throwing (Saturday) ( 16+ Years )

Satisfy your curiosity, and experience a fun and thorough introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel. Learn the skills necessary to throw cylinders, cups, bowls and more in this exciting class. Your instructor guides you through the process of throwing, shaping and trimming pots on the wheel. Basic surface decoration and glazing techniques are also demonstrated. This class is designed for students with little or no experience on the potter’s wheel. All students must purchase clay separately (available at the Dahl while supplies last). Participation in this class entitles you to access the Open Pottery Studio during enrollment. This class satisfies one of the prerequisite requirements of Open Pottery Studio. Learning from the Masters ( 14+ Years )

This class will give you the opportunity to try various mediums such as oil paint, oil pastel, watercolor and egg tempera. You will also explore the lives and art of Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth.  For each artist you will complete a small painting based on their work and medium. Class instructed by Sue Stoddart.

Date Night Clay - March ( 16+ Years )

Bring a friend and try something new and different on a Saturday night! Our instructor gives you an introduction to the basic steps of working on the pottery wheel and then turns you loose to make your own pots. Wear or bring clothes that you don't mind getting dirty, and show up ready to have some fun! Tools are provided, as well as 5lbs of clay perperson. Each student gets to keep one of their pots from the evening, which our expert staff will glaze and fire for you. Your creations can be picked up about 2 weeks after your class. Cost is $65.00 for two. Instructed by Victoria Caudill

Plein Air Class ( 14+ Years )

 Get outside and Paint!  Jump in to the plein air movement by learning to paint outdoors. Outdoor painting and sketching is a great way to relax, have fun, and enjoy being outside!  We will begin with drawing and finish with watercolor pen sketches - or bring your own medium of choice.  This class will instruct on how to see the landscape, select a subject,  simplify,  create depth and more.  Prior art experience would be helpful but is not required. Drawing and watercolor supplies are included but please bring a  chair, bug spray, water, sunscreen and anything else to make your outdoor experience comfortable.  We will meet at the Dahl for the first class then at various Rapid City parks for the other classes.  Instructed by Sue Stoddart
